O trabalho propõe a reflexão do ser humano frente à destruição do planeta e sua própria extinção. As obras até aqui produzidas fazem parte de uma série que começou após o dia 10 de agosto de 2019, o “Dia do Fogo”, quando a floresta amazônica foi incendiada, intencionalmente, por produtores rurais e então, realizei a vídeoperformance “O futuro é um buraco no muro” como uma forma de expressar a dor sentida e a minha impotência. Um ano após, apenas somente 5% dos suspeitos foram punidos e a Amazônia, o Pantanal e o Cerrado, biomas presentes no Estado do Mato Grosso, foram novamente devastados pelo fogo.
A cidade de Cuiabá, coração e centro geodésico da América do Sul, onde vivo há mais de 30 anos, era uma ilha circundada por fogo. O ar tornou-se irrespirável, em meio à pandemia pelo coronavírus. Presença de vegetação criminosamente inflamada. Uma ideia de extinção pegando fogo, que, em 2023, ainda continua a anunciar o funeral da nossa diversidade, resultando desta modernidade desenvolvimentista de como somos vítimas e algozes. Por isso o trabalho continua.
Meu corpo com medo doía frente à morte do corpo florestal. Então, durante o período das queimadas, fui ao Cerrado entre Cuiabá e Chapada dos Guimarães, no trajeto por onde a Expedição Langsdorf (1827) registrou a biodiversidade e a geografia local. Hercules Florence, integrante deste e inventor da fotografia, registrou a natureza íntegra e exuberante, através de seus manuscritos, desenhos e aquarelas. Após quase dois anos, percorrendo parte do caminho, registrei as intervenções que fiz na natureza, autorretratos e vídeos das performances realizadas, sempre realizadas em agosto e setembro de cada ano, considerados os meses de maior número de incêndios florestais no Estado do Mato Grosso.
O Cerrado inflamado mostra o céu em tons vermelhos de Urucum, espécie nativa medicinal, utilizada pelos povos ancestrais do Brasil para proteção. Isso representa um sintoma desta doença decorrente da gestão ambiental, que por décadas privilegia o agronegócio e a mineração, em detrimento da sustentabilidade e da justiça socioambiental, tão necessária ao Brasil e ao mundo.

Annatto sky
The work is in progress and proposes the reflection of the human being in face of the planet's destruction and its own extinction. The works produced so far are part of a series that started after August 10, 2019, the “Day of Fire”, when the Amazon forest was intentionally set on fire by rural producers and then, I made the video performance “The future is a hole in the wall” as a way of expressing the pain felt and my impotence. Later, I produced sketches to guide future images taken in 2020.
A year later, only 5% of the guilty had been punished and the Amazon, the Pantanal and the Cerrado, biomes present in the State of Mato Grosso, were again devastated by fire. The city of Cuiabá, the heart and geodesic center of South America, where I have lived for over 30 years, has become an island surrounded by fire. The air became unbreathable amidst the coronavirus pandemic. I witnessed the vegetation being criminally ignited. An idea of extinction on fire, which, in 2021, still continues to announce the funeral of our diversity, resulting from this developmental modernity of which we are victims and executioners.
My fearful body ached facing the death of the forest body. So, during the burning period, I went to the Cerrado between Cuiabá and Chapada dos Guimarães, on the path where the Langsdorf Expedition (1827) recorded the local biodiversity and geography. Hercules Florence, member of the photograph and inventor of photography, recorded the full and exuberant nature, through his manuscripts, drawings and watercolors. After nearly two hundred years, following the same path, I recorded the interventions in nature and the self-portraits and videos of the performances carried out, held in August and September of each year, considered the months with the highest number of forest fires in the State of Mato Grosso.

The Cerrado inflamado, shows the sky in red tones Urucum, a medicinal native species, used by the Indians and currently also in regional cuisine. This color represents a symptom of this unhealthy environmental management, which privileges agribusiness and mining, to the detriment of sustainability and socio-environmental justice, so necessary for Brazil and the world.
